EYAM – Custom built Clinker

Many happy memories come with this boat!

EYAM is the village in the Peak District where the owner grew up – and the boat was a gift from her Father in the early 1960s.

Then in her 20’s, the owner had got in with a sailing crowd in London and was keen to have a boat of own. Her father had contacts on the Norfolk Broads and used his engineering skills to select a clinker boat which, while it sails very nicely, can safely be handled by a novice alone!  He chose Jacksons, then an established boat builder near Peterborough.

The owner joined Emsworth Sailing Club, on Chichester harbour, where there were plenty of friendly people around to help and guide her, and the boat was kept at the Club during the week.

As a novice she did not race, but Eyam often sailed out with a group of others to Hayling island – a pleasant sail, followed by picnics, sunbathing and swimming.

After several years at Emsworth the owner married and the boat accompanied her to Windsor to be used by the family.  It was fully worked up, including new trailer and outboard motor, in 1997 by Stanley & Thomas Boat builders at Romney Lock. Unfortunately, real life intervened and Eyam has slumbered in storage and not been used since those early days of the 1960s.

Eyam comes equipped with recently refurbished oars, trailer and outboard motor and is available for viewing by appointment
